Matt Avey is the Curriculum Specialist/Supervisor of K-12 Physical Education and Health Science for the Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska.  402-436-1812

Lincoln Public Schools (LPS) currently serves over 42,000 students.  His additional roles include serving on the SHAPE America Health Program Council and as an Advisory and Collaborator with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Academy for Child and Family Well-Being.  He is one of 5 members of the CALCAS Curriculum Development Team, co-authoring NFSP's new spincast curriculum, "Cast A Lure, Catch A Student."  Prior to his current administrative position, Matt was a high school PE teacher where he practiced his NFSP Level 1 CAFCAS Teacher Certification.

Matt has a passion for outdoor pursuits as well as for passing along these skills to our youth through education. LPS adopted philosophy toward Physical Education that grounds itself in experiences that will shape the physical and emotional wellbeing of students for a lifetime.  Outdoor Education and Adventure Education are central themes in the Secondary Physical Education. 

As an avid angler and fly fisherman himself, Matt is always aspiring to get as many students engaged in the outdoors as he can.  Lincoln Public Schools has hosted severals years of F.I.S.H.* Tournaments for all of its high school students and is one of the largest student tournaments of its kind in the state and the midwest.  More than 1500 students have  participated. 

Matt, wife Dorann, and their daughters Breann and Kayci, reside in Lincoln.
